Vital Records Registration Branch Analyst

The Center for Health Statistics and Informatics (CHSI) is responsible for department-wide initiatives to improve the effectiveness of our work through better health information systems, increased application of epidemiologic methods of analysis, strong liaisons with public health organizations and schools of public health, and effective partnerships with local health agencies and professionals. CHSI houses the Office of Vital Records, responsible for registering all California vital events and providing birth, death, and marriage records to the public. In addition, CHSI is involved in many cross-cutting and innovative data projects including the statewide Open Data Portal and Health Information Exchange.

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by performing the more complex technical analysis, project management, and monitoring of California Integrated Vital Records System (Cal-IVRS), the Electronic Birth Registration System (EBRS), Electronic Death Registration System (EDRS), Fetal Death Registration Module (FDRM), Vital Records Business Intelligence System (VRBIS) and marriage registration, implementing a uniform vital event registration process of births, deaths, fetal deaths, and marriages across all local registration districts.

The Associate Governmental Program Analyst (AGPA) independently provides a wide variety of the more complex legislative research and analysis, as well as data and statistical analysis. The AGPA provides analytical support to the Vital Records Registration Branch (VRRB), as needed, and responds to legislative inquiries and inquiries from the public that pertain to vital records registration. The AGPA creates and presents material at registration trainings and workshops for stakeholders, as well as assists in coordinating information gathering between Sections and Branches within the Center for Health Statistics and Informatics (CHSI). The AGPA will be assigned the more complex special projects within VRRB including assisting with project management within the Data Quality and Analysis Unit (DQAU) and the Integrated Vital Records Unit (IVRU). Up to 5% travel may be required in the performance of these duties, including overnight stays.
