Bioenergy Technology Manager
This position is a Technology Manager for the Renewable Carbon Resources (RCR) subprogram of the Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO). The RCR subprogram works with public and private partners to develop innovative technologies and conduct crosscutting analyses that can sustainably expand the availability and use of renewable carbon resources for the production of biofuels and renewable chemicals and materials in the United States. Renewable carbon resources include agricultural and forestry residues such as corn stover and forest thinning, purpose-grown energy crops such as microalgae, macroalgae, switchgrass, shrub willow, pennycress, and wastes streams such as municipal solid wastes, and sludges. This work will help researchers realize the potential of the domestic bioeconomy capable of sustainably producing and using a billion tons of renewable carbon resources per year. The project portfolio will include projects from academia, DOE National Laboratories, and industry. As a member of the RCR team, the incumbent will help to execute the multi-year R&D vision and key funding opportunities to achieve subprogram and BETO goals. BETO is looking for a dynamic, innovative team member whose responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the RCR Program Manager in developing long-term goals and objectives, and establishing specific requirements and schedules for conducting research and analysis leading to cost effective, sustainable production and mobilization of renewable carbon resources for use in biofuel, bioproduct, or carbon drawdown applications.
- Developing topics for potential inclusion in annual calls for proposals, reviewing proposals, and supporting technology review activities
- Proactively managing projects for success
- Preparing and presenting briefing materials
- Preparing technical program documents
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required to Perform the Work/Specialized Experience:
- Expertise and knowledge in renewable carbon resources and bioenergy technologies sufficient to support the development and implementation of activities to improve the research, development, commercialization, and adoption of these technologies in the US.
- Expertise and knowledge in renewable carbon resources and bioenergy technologies sufficient to represent BETO to DOE National Laboratories and other stakeholders and partners.
- Knowledge project management principles, methods and practices.
- Skills in oral and written communication to communicate with a variety of organizations, agencies, and stakeholders.
Additional Details:
Occasional multi-day travel will be required, including periodic travel between DOE headquarters and the Golden Field Office (Golden, Colorado). Financial disclosure is required, and the incumbent may be required to pass a background investigation.
