Interior Engineering Intern

Slate is a new US company exploring development in the electric vehicle space.

Salary: $20 to $25 per hour

Who we are looking for:

  • Seeking an Interior Engineering Intern for the Winter 2025 Semester (January to April 2025).
  • Availability to commute to Troy, MI office 3 to 5 days per week
  • Ability to travel locally in Metro Detroit, Lake Orion and Auburn Hills, MI 10% to support supplier relationships
  • Enthusiastic candidates who are eager to gain real-world engineering experience in a dynamic startup environment.
  • Individuals who are passionate about the aesthetics and functionality of vehicle interiors and keen to influence design decisions.
  • Applicants interested in acquiring comprehensive, full life cycle engineering experience.
     

What you get to do:

  • Research, Respectfully Collaborate with cross functional teams, and Create Polarian requirements for the Interior Cabin related to craftsmanship.
  • Ensure the Polarian requirements are added to the DVP&R at the system, sub-system, component, and material levels
  • Assist in development and building of the “Meisterbach”
  • Gain firsthand practical experience in vehicle Craftsmanship
  • Led root cause analysis of Beta cabin craftsmanship issues and ensure lessons learned are incorporated into production designs
  • Create a report and present - “Fit and Finish as it relates to the Consumer Perception of Craftsmanship Value”
  • Complete an aligned Fit and Finish Deck with quality and design studio using RSS, GD&T, and CAE inputs.
  • Produce the Meisterbach and measure Fit and Finish according to the Fit and Finish Deck.

What you bring to the team:

  • Currently enrolled in the 3rd or 4th year of a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering program.
  • Maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Passionate about enhancing products and processes and thrives in team collaborations.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership skills, hands-on troubleshooting abilities, and an improvement-oriented mindset.
  • Active participation in the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), Baja, or Student Formula 1 Teams is a plus.
