Spring 2025 Urban Forestry Internship

The City of Chesapeake is accepting applications for a Spring 2025 Internship (January 13- April 25, 2025) with the Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Urban Forestry Planning Division.

The intern will gain valuable skills by assisting the development of an Urban Forestry Plan and tree canopy survey for the City.

Key Learning:

• Urban forestry and tree management on City properties.
• Industry promotional programs such as Tree City USA (Urban Forest Services), to include serving as an information source to the public as directed.
• Research and maintain currency in all applicable arboriculture, urban forestry codes and ordinances.
• Assist with tree care operations on municipal property, including city owned parks and open spaces.
• Assist with the development and implementation a of tree inventory database.
• Customer service relations to a diverse population – meeting the expectations of the City’s Customer CARES standards.
• Work with volunteer groups to assist in urban forestry maintenance, installations, monitoring special events, and various projects.
