Summer Youth Art Camps Counselor

Herron School of Art and Design at Indiana University Indianapolis includes non-credit community programming in visual art. 

As a counselor for Youth Art Camps, you can expect to:

  • Provide support for camp program activities
  • Bring an enthusiasm to camp activities
  • Be part of a community of beginning, intermediate, and expert Art Educators.
  • Support students as they create and curate their own body of work in a culminating exhibit.\

As a counselor for Youth Art Camps,  you will learn:

  • Art Education core concepts (like Visual Art Standards, pedagogy, and methodologies)
  • How to support young students in a classroom environment.
  • Safety and protocol for programs involving children.
  • Behind the scenes procedures and administrative processes of camp programming.

The qualified candidate would meet the following expectations:

  • Able to work with colleagues with a strong sense of community, honoring space, time, and resources of others.
  • Arrives on time and manages own time logging.
  • Strong communication skills (like reaching out to supervisor with questions)
  • Be First Aid/ CPR certified
  • Have some experience working with youth or community-engaged programs
