Who We Are:
Mental Health Support Services (MHSS) is the provider of mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorder services for children and adults in Chesterfield County. We are seeking an Employment Assistant to join Chesterfield Employment Services where we have supported individuals with employment for fifty years. As an Employment Assistant, you will provide direct training, support, and advocacy to adults with intellectual disabilities in different employment settings.
Minimum Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED; college coursework in human services preferred; at least one year of experience working with individuals with disabilities in community-based employment, although experience working in community settings providing other services will be considered; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Knowledge of systematic instruction techniques and behavioral intervention strategies necessary.
Additional Requirements
Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Record must reflect at least three years of history and dated within thirty days of interview date.
Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification required.
This position is considered Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Provide direct training, support, and advocacy to adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities in a group employment environment. This position involves the ability to oversee individuals that provide cleaning services in their work setting. This position will be expected to assist with physically demanding tasks including, but not limited to heavy lifting, walking up and down stairs, standing for prolonged periods, squatting, bending, and reaching overhead. Functions include assessment, job site training, quality checking work to contract standards, documentation in an electronic health record system, monitoring, and support. Additionally, there is a strong customer service component that is needed. This position will work with community businesses to satisfy their contract needs, families, and other programs to ensure coordination of services. Perform other work as required.
