Mechanical Engineering Intern - Fluidics

For the past 50 years, Beckman Coulter has been in the leading position in providing both the cell analyzers and sorters with detection capability spanning from cells, particles to nano level extracellular vehicles by offering the cutting-edge hardware solution, customer workflow-oriented software as well as comprehensive reagents / assays, which empowers both the advanced scientific research and clinical diagnostics in immunology, cancer research, immune-oncology, drug discovery as well as vaccine development.

We are looking for an intern optics engineer for the flow business unit to contribute to the research and development of generation II platform, the responsibilities of this position will range from idealization, proof-of-concept through feasibility study to the building of engineering prototype ,and this role also requests the collaboration with different functions / sites to gain deep inside into the customers’ user scenarios and break them down into user needs / design inputs as well as the module level requirements and work together with the global teams to do the realization.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop the microfluidics including the sample delivery and sheath delivery system.
  • Lead / participate from system specs decomposition to fluidics simulation on laminar flow, sample injection and prototype building for concept proof together with other subject matter experts.
  • Key fluidics components selection and qualification (e.g. pump, valve, flow sensors…etc.).
  • Perform the module / system level characterization testing to figure out the optimal configuration for the system design.

Working together other professionals e.g., Optics, ME and EE to ensure the system integration and compatibility with other modules / sub-system.
