Chief, Payroll & Benefits Service Unit

Under the general direction from the Staff Services Manager II (SSM II), Chief, Payroll and Benefit Services Section, the Staff Services Manager I (SSM I) is responsible for overseeing the activities of the Payroll and Benefit Services Unit A.  The incumbent supervises and evaluates subordinate staff who provide the full range of personnel, payroll, disability, payroll, and benefit services to their assigned Program/Unit employees.  

This is a 12 month Limited-Term Full-Time position that may be extended or become Permanent.

  • State of California’s payroll and benefit processes and systems

  • Excellent attendance and dependability
  • Ability to motivate and encourage staff and promote a team effort
  • Ability to guide staff in performing tasks of varying degrees of complexity
  • Possess strong organizational skills and commitment to quality customer service
  • Ability to apply State and Federal laws, rules, policies, and procedures
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff
