The Watershed Assessment & Recovery Unit of the North Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board is looking for Engineering Geologists to help us fulfil our vision - Healthy Watersheds, Effective Regulation and Strong Partnerships. The position is in the heart of beautiful Sonoma County at 5550 Skylane Blvd. Ste A, Santa Rosa, CA 95403. This area is known for its great restaurants and excellent outdoor recreation opportunities.
Duties:
The Engineering Geologist is responsible for conducting the work outlined in the Duty Statement. Work includes supporting recovery of sediment and temperature impaired watersheds in the North Coast Region through assessment, inspection, contracts, grants, order development, and order implementation, with a focus on road related sediment discharges. The initial area of focus for the unit will be the Gualala River watershed, with work expanding to other watersheds over time.
The position requires knowledge of water quality statutes and regulations; rural road construction; erosion control design and maintenance; hillslope processes and slope stability; geomorphology and hydrology; and watershed analysis of multiple land use projects and their impacts on fisheries, water supply, and other beneficial uses of water. Salary information – CalHR salary rules allow appointment at the entrance rate (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 2, § 599.673) of a classification. For classes with alternate ranges, placement is based on education/experience.
