 CALPIA Optical program is designed to meet California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) institutional needs statewide. You will train and mentor incarcerated individuals who will gain knowledge and skills needed to meet the highest possible standards for Optometry and increase one’s chances for employment opportunities upon release.

Under the direction of the Optical Superintendent II, the incumbent directs and organizes clerical staff in performing of specialized and technical duties at the Optical Annex, including the receiving and shipping, screening, customer service and data entry of prescription eyewear.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • Supervisory experience (Timekeeping, scheduling, etc)
  • Experience performing clerical work
  • Customer service experience
  • Computer Experience (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Optical experience
  • Experience meeting deadlines and working both independently and on a team
