Student Dispatcher - Police Department
The Student Dispatcher is an integral part of the NMU Police Department.
Responsibilities include:
· Radio correspondence with NMU Police Department Officers and Central Dispatch.
· Answer emergency and non-emergency phone calls from students, faculty/staff, and the general public; refer callers to the appropriate department/person and answer inquiries.
· Monitor fire safety systems, security cameras, and campus doors.
· Follow procedures to direct after-hours requests and inquiries (i.e. parking, maintenance)
· Check weapons in and out.
· Maintain dispatch log on computer.
· Maintain a record of campus lost and found.
· Assist Police Officers and staff with other various tasks.
Qualifications
· Ability to retain/recall information and accurately communicate it to others.
· MUST be able to multi-task.
· Ability to remain calm during high-stress situations.
· Ability to use judgment when dealing with confidential information.
· Knowledge of law enforcement is a plus but is not required.
· Strong computer and typing skills.
This is a majority night shift (12:30am-7:00am). 10-15 hours of work available each week during the semester. During school breaks, students can work up to 40 hours per week.
