MITRE’s Center for Government Effectiveness and Modernization (CGEM), Veterans Affairs (VA) Health Systems & Transformation division, is seeking a motivated and creative Health Analyst Intern for Summer 2025 that has a desire to learn VA health administration, operations, policy, and analytics. This position has opportunities to work on multiple projects, cross-pollinate good ideas across the government, and develop technical analyses and recommendations.

Our division works to solve problems around the care and services provided to our nation's Veterans in partnership with the government. We also actively conduct independent research in areas of interest to our government partners, including clinical and systems engineering analyses.
Responsibilities may include:
- Conducting in-depth healthcare research on various topics, synthesizing information, and creating well-written reports and presentations.
- Collecting and interpreting data, identifying trends and patterns, and providing support in making data-driven decisions – including data mining, statistical models, predictive analytics, optimization, risk analysis, and data visualization.
- Conducting research and analysis of healthcare programs and policies, and assessing their impact on care delivery and operations, or other relevant areas - utilizing methods and models from applied social and behavioral sciences for data collection.
- Collaboratively working with our team to solve problems related to the care and services provided to our nation's Veterans.
- Learning and applying new technologies relevant to the field of health analysis.
- Providing project management support, including preparing status reports and spreadsheets.
- Preparing and editing deliverables such as documents and presentations.
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of healthcare regulations and best practices.
- Participating in team meetings and contributing to discussions and brainstorming sessions.
- Collectively understanding and defining requirements in a problem space.
Required Qualifications:
- Must be presently enrolled and in good standing with a graduate or undergraduate degree program with a focus on public health, clinical/health informatics, healthcare standards and interoperability, health data science/analytics, health policy, human factors engineering, and/or pursing a clinical degree with course work in informatics, policy, or acquisitions.
- Strong skills in conducting research, written communication, organization, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Proficient in using the Microsoft suite of applications to create compelling artifacts with the ability to translate complex information into easy-to-understand language.
- ·Familiarity with healthcare, public health, and scientific terminology.
- Demonstrated understanding of the healthcare industry, clinical roles, and government or private healthcare organizations.
- Sustained excellence in academic performance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Subject matter expertise in health economics, health or public policy, outcomes research, health analytics, public health, health information technology, and/or other health-related government initiatives.
- Experience with hospital/healthcare operations, including knowledge of the day-to-day activities involved in patient care, administrative tasks, and the coordination of care delivery services.
- Experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, etc.), EHR implementations, and EHR workflows.
- Familiarity with behavioral science research methods including survey, experimental, qualitative, and quantitative methods.
- Experience with qualitative and quantitative analysis tools such as: NVivo, R, Python, SAS, etc.
- Experience with various Microsoft 365 applications, including: Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, Planner, Power BI, SharePoint, Teams, and Forms.
- Experience in multidisciplinary fields that involve designing, integrating, and/or managing complex systems over their life cycles.
- Familiarity with identifying interconnections and looking for ways to improve efficiency, optimize processes, and increase productivity.
