Safety Intern
Summary
As a Safety Intern at our manufacturing plant, you will get exposure to and learn the technical assessments and analyses necessary for an impactful career in Occupational Health and Safety, Manufacturing Engineering, or Safety Engineering. During your internship, you will work closely with our Safety, Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance teams to support our site’s need for equipment and systems safety assessments, supporting our EHS Team with safety audits, monitoring plant safety programs, initiatives, and compliance inspections.
About this internship
This is an on-site full-time (40 hours/week), paid internship that runs approximately 9 weeks (June-August) at our New Berlin/South Edmonston, NY manufacturing facility.
Eligible for subsidized housing & travel stipend. Additionally, as a student associate there will be activities and events intended to help you grow your network, develop your professional skills, and immerse yourself in our company culture.
Responsibilities
During your internship experience, you may get involved in:
- Conducting inspections of plant lockout tagout energy control procedures.
Leading risk assessments by evaluating operator tasks and identifying opportunities to mitigate job hazards. - Monitoring industrial hygiene
- Conducting chemical inventory and auditing safety data sheet database.
- Performing data collection and analysis to assist in the execution of safety improvement initiatives.
- Reporting out findings and recommendations for continuous improvement to stakeholders.
- Assist with incident investigations and corrective actions.
- Developing training and instruction methods related to potential hazards and occupational safety measures.
- Providing support and input regarding the design and layout of workplaces, working sequences, the working environment, tools, and/or personal protective equipment.
Requirements
- Be in pursuit of a bachelor’s or master’s degree in occupational safety, engineering, chemistry, environmental sciences, or other related fields.
- Ability to read technical specifications and drawings.
- Ability to organize and document large amounts of technical data.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Ability to effectively collaborate and build trusting relationships with others.
- Ability to complete deliverables within established timeframes and guidelines.
- Proficiency with MS Office applications, such as Word and Excel, and ability to quickly learn job-related technologies and tools.
