Enterprise Cost Accountant
The CalSTRS Financial Planning, Accounting, & Reporting Division is seeking a motivated individual to work as a Financial Accountant I on the Cost Accounting Team.
The Financial Planning, Accounting and Reporting Division is responsible for developing and maintaining the annual financial planning processes, preparing accounting records and managerial reports detailing cost and performance information, and coordinating and preparing the financial statements in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.
The Cost Accounting team defines and maintains CalSTRS cost objects and allocation methodology; monitors periodic cost allocation transactions and resulting program, organizational unit and fund costs; and, provides “actual” results for performance management.
Under the general supervision of the Financial Accountant IV, the Financial Accountant I (FA I) performs complex and specialized cost accounting, research, analysis and reporting where risk of error is substantial. Maintains an accounting and allocation framework to measure, allocate and report financial and statistical data across the Teachers’ Retirement System’s pension and operational programs; extracts, analyzes and presents financial data to drive improvement in performance management, financial reporting, and operational control functions. The FA I acts independently as a subject matter expert for the organizational management, personnel administration (OMPA) module within BD; researching, analyzing, and designing business process improvements; implementing system enhancements and modifications to BusinessDirect (BD) and related interfaces.
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Public Administration or another similar technical field.
- Experience developing or utilizing cost accounting and cost allocation methodologies and practices.
- Experience extracting data from ERP and/or IT systems and categorizing, formatting, and reporting data.
- Experience performing organizational management and personnel administration tasks in an Enterprise Resource Planning system.
- Knowledge of and experience with governmental accounting and budgeting.
- Advanced excel skills and demonstrated use of, or application of expertise.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with all levels of staff and management.
- Ability to establish strong working relationships across the organization with technical staff, project managers and business area subject matter experts.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently.
Every 12 months, based on performance evaluation, employees may receive a 5% salary increase until they reach the maximum salary for the position.
