ACT Teaching Artist

Contracted 

2-10 hours/week: Schedule and hours vary by program. 

 

SUMMARY: 

Become part of a growing nonprofit organization empowering individuals with disabilities to learn, grow, and celebrate through the arts. Artists Creating Together is seeking contracted Teaching Artists to lead performing and visual art experiences in the community, our studio, and local schools. Teaching Artists plan for creative arts instruction within their area of expertise by preparing project examples, visual aides, and supply requests prior to weekly programs or one-time events. Teaching Artists are responsible for leading students in the prepared art activities during their assigned programs. ACT staff are available to support Teaching Artists by: preparing requested supplies, providing practical suggestions for adaptive, diversified art instruction, and providing hands on assistance in classes. 

Once accepted to the ACT team, Teaching Artists may accept contracts regularly or intermittently, leading one-time events on occasion, or regular weekly classes throughout the year. Scheduling varies greatly by program needs and Teaching Artist availability. Rate of pay commensurate with experience. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Must have some daytime availability during the week: Programs often take place Monday through Thursday, between the hours of 8:30am-6:30pm 

• Must have reliable transportation for travel throughout greater Grand Rapids 

• Creative thinking and project planning using nonprofit resources 

• Commitment to the vision/mission of ACT; passion for sharing your artform with students of all abilities 

• Experience teaching diverse populations a plus
