Peer-to-Peer Financial Coach
Role Description
Unique Internship Opportunity on The University of Akron Campus!
We have a unique paid internship opportunity for one (1) undergraduate student to help us build a new peer-to-peer financial coaching program during the 2024-2025 academic year. The peer-to-peer coaching program will help ZipAssist meet the demand for basic financial literacy support and education by having students studying financial planning and other related fields provide support to their fellow students. This new peer-to-peer coaching program is a collaboration between the ZipAssist Program and the Financial Planning Program in the College of Business.
ZipAssist is currently seeking one (1) intern to assist with developing the program from the ground up, including program research, program design, financial literacy presentation design, program promotion across campus, and beta testing of program offerings, among other things.
Job Summary
The Peer-to-Peer Coaching Intern will assist the leadership of the ZipAssist program, with support from the Financial Planning program, to create the initial structure of the peer-to-peer coaching program and the anticipated structure of the program. This will include the following:
- Researching existing programs at other universities, identifying key attributes and challenges these existing programs have faced and their solutions for dealing with the challenges,
- Providing weekly coaching to fellow students as a peer financial coach to build an understanding of the position, then helping design and test a training program for future volunteer and supervisory positions in the program based upon this experience,
- Assisting with the creation and updating of promotional programs, and then delivering those programs to develop awareness of the ZipAssist program and the new peer-to-peer coaching program,
- Working with resource providers, both internal and external to The University of Akron, to understand the resources available and develop tools to help the peer counselors in their roles, and
- Other activities as determined by program leaders that benefit the development of the program.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Students in this role will:
- Provide financial coaching sessions to UA students during scheduled times throughout the work week, including developing case notes and providing follow up,
- Work with our internal team as follows:
- Attending weekly staff meeting/training/supervisor check-ins,
- Supporting position development,
- Creating marketing material for program promotion, then promoting the program through tabling, fliers, ZipMail, presentations, and recruitment/hiring events.

Requirements
Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student. Preference given to students with a major or a minor in Financial Planning.

UA student employees must be 18 years or older at the time of their start date. Any approved remote work conducted by student employees MUST be performed within the state of Ohio.
