Behavior Specialist
Title: BEHAVIORAL SPECIALIST
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Education Psychology, Analysis, Clinical/Experimental/Behavioral Psychology, Social Work, Special Education or other related field. Valid New Jersey Teacher of the Handicapped or Teacher of Students with Disabilities, School Psychologist, or Social Worker certificate.
Reports to: Director of Special Services
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Designs programs for students that are consistent with the total educational philosophy and goals of the Hillsborough Board of Education.
2. Participates as a team member in the identification of social/behavioral problems.
3. Works in coordination with teachers, related services personnel and administration in planning and developing a behavioral program for individual students.
4. Provides continual follow up to teachers, related service personnel and administration on behavioral management programs for students to remediate behavioral and social problems.
5. Participates as a team member in the evaluation of student progress.
6. Works as a team member in the development and implementation of mainstreaming procedures.
7. Continues professional growth through educational meetings, visits to related facilities, reads professional literature, and exchanges ideas among the district staff.
8. Develops, implements, and teaches social skills curriculum to students individually or within a group setting (applies to instructional certificates only).
9. Plans and confers with the classroom teacher of students, as requested, concerning any behavioral, social, or personal problems affecting the students.
10. Provides training for paraprofessionals with the programs in the areas of behavior management skills and affective education.
11. Develops and conducts in-service activities regarding techniques for remediating behavioral, social or personal problems of students.
12. Completes reports for appropriate Child Study Team members.
13. Completes reports as requested for the Director of Special Services.
14. Assists with team problem solving with other behavioral specialists, agency personnel, and other appropriate professionals on a regular basis.
15. Performs other duties within the scope of the position, as may be assigned.
