Practice Group Assistant

That’s why we’re looking for a dynamic administrative professional to join our Intellectual Property Division to efficiently support our legal staff.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for...

  • Processing expenses, document retrieval, organizing documents and assembling business development materials
  • Assisting with monthly client billing process
  • Ensuring timely processing of client charges for all appropriate expenditures, including processing requests for payment of outside vendors
  • Assisting legal staff with new business intake, including opening new patent prosecution matters
  • Assisting with management of lifecycle of patent applications including drafting and sending routine correspondences, and filing formal documents in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
  • Maintaining electronic and physical files
  • Assisting with out-processing of client files, including ensuring file cleanout, close file procedures, and special practice area filing procedures

The successful candidate will demonstrate...

  • A minimum of 1-2 years of related administrative experience; intellectual property experience a plus but not required
  • Ability to effectively utilize IP docketing software and USPTO online resources
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to independently and efficiently prioritize workflow
  • Desire to learn new tasks and technologies
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to various practice management styles
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple competing tasks and demands

Pay Range for Candidates in Washington, DC: 
$50,000 - $65,000 per year

The range provided is the minimum and maximum salary that Venable in good faith believes at the time of this posting that it is willing to pay for the advertised position.  Exact compensation will be determined based on individual candidate qualifications and location.
