Communication Specialist Intern

Description of Work

This is a temporary position and there are no leave or retirement benefits offered with this position. This temporary position is located in Raleigh - Wake County.  

Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $15.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application). 

This temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Commerce. This position is located at 313 Chapanoke Rd., Raleigh, NC 27603.
This intern (current college student) will support the Division of Workforce Solutions communications unit, part of the larger North Carolina Department of Commerce communications team The position will be based at the Division of Workforce Solutions central office in Raleigh, but there will be an opportunity for telework (remote work) Some travel may be required. The intern will report to the DWS Communications Manager. Duties performed may include: 

 

  • Drafting/writing content (for example, items for newsletters, or for internal/external websites) for review by the Communications Manager
  • Preparation of documents and reports
  • Research
  • Photography (occasional)
  • Social media content development
  • Drafting talking points for agency leaders
  • Editing content written by others at the department
  • Collaborating with other staff at the department and gathering
  • information from them to, for example, highlight agency successes.

There will be the opportunity to extend the internship beyond the end of a single college semester. 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Working knowledge of and ability to use correct spelling, punctuation, and specialized vocabulary.

  • Ability to present ideas in written form; ability to adjust language or terminology to meet needs of the recipient(s); ability to use correct grammar, organization, and structure.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs preferred (not required).
