Subject Matter Experts: U.S. State History & Geography (freelance, remote)

About the Job:

Subject matter experts in state history and geography are needed to review grade 3–8 content for historical and factual accuracy. This is part-time, freelance work.

Responsibilities

  • Review grade 3–8 U.S. state history and geography textbook manuscript for historical and factual accuracy. 
  • Communicate with editorial teams about necessary content changes.
  • Provide sources for any content changes.
  • Review textbook manuscript files within given schedule and deadlines.

Essential Skills & Requirements:

  • A doctoral degree in history, geography, or a related field
  • Relevant teaching or research affiliation with a university
  • Expertise in US state history or geography
  • Able to review textbook content accurately and on schedule
  • A concentration in one of the following states is a plus:
    • Arizona
    • Colorado
    • Florida
    • Minnesota
    • North Carolina
    • Utah

Desirable but not required:

  • Author or contributor to US state history publications or textbooks
  • Resident of one of the states listed
  • Experience teaching or developing curriculum for grades 3–8
  • Experience as a subject matter expert for edtech/edpub materials
