Environmental, Health & Safety Intern - Berea, KY

Responsibilities & Qualifications

 

Novelis in Berea has an opportunity to participate in our on-site summer 2025 internship. The team is seeking a EHS intern that can join the team for approximately 12 weeks. The person in this role will have the opportunity to participate in relevant work and gain hands on industry experience. The intern will report to the EHS Leader and will gain experience with environmental, health, and safety practices in a recycling and manufacturing facility.

 

Responsibilities:

· Learn the EHS side of the recycling and aluminum manufacturing process through hands-on experience and spending time on the plant’s shop floor.

· Learn environmental regulations such as air and water permits, in a manufacturing setting.

· Assist Berea’s EHS team in identifying and mitigating slip, trip, and fall hazards as well as develop new ideas/designs for machine guarding efforts.

· Help the Berea EHS team plan and carry out an annual health fair.

· Improve new hire and contractor safety orientations.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

· Enrolled in an accredited 4-year University.

· Must be a Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or recent Graduate.

· Interested in gaining hands-on industry experience prior to graduation.

· Effective interpersonal and communication skills which are essential for interacting with all levels of the organization

· Must be currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer

 

Preferred Qualifications:

· Prefer students majoring Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, or other related fields.

· Solid business insight

· Interest in a career in a manufacturing environment

· Strong teamwork and presentation skills

Location Profile

Novelis’ Berea facility is located in Berea Kentucky near Lexington. With 150 employees the recycling facility processes approximately 20 percent of all aluminum cans recycled in the United States each year – more than 750 million pounds.
