Our Food Marketplace Internship offers a unique, hands-on opportunity for students and graduates who are ready to step into a real-world project and deliver results. We are building a food marketplace that will revolutionize how restaurants, food trucks, and caterers connect with consumers and businesses.

This is a chance to be part of a multi-faceted project that touches every aspect of digital business, including vendor outreach, marketplace setup, digital marketing, project management, and platform optimization. We expect the best of the best—those who can work independently, bring creative solutions to the table, and push themselves to achieve excellence.

Internship Overview:

Position: Food Marketplace Intern (Unpaid)

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9 AM - 3 PM

Location: Remote

Duration: Now through August 2025

Compensation: Unpaid

Responsibilities:

As a Food Marketplace Intern, you will be responsible for mission-based tasks in several key areas, allowing you to gain deep experience and make meaningful contributions. You will be working independently and in small groups, developing your problem-solving skills, and learning through real-world challenges.

1. Vendor Outreach & Onboarding

You will be responsible for identifying, researching, and onboarding food vendors such as food trucks, restaurants, and catering companies onto the platform. This will include:

Researching and sourcing potential vendors in targeted markets, initially focusing on Iceland, with plans to expand globally.

Initiating contact with vendors via email and phone to introduce the marketplace, explaining how they can benefit from joining.

Following up with vendors to ensure they are fully onboarded—this includes providing them with guidance on setting up profiles, uploading menus, and enabling bookings.

Setting up and managing vendor profiles on the platform, ensuring all information is accurate, up-to-date, and visually engaging, including high-quality images, pricing, availability, and customer reviews.

Training vendors on how to use the marketplace’s backend system, ensuring they can manage their bookings, profile updates, and reviews independently.

2. Digital Marketing & Outreach Campaigns

You will be heavily involved in the marketing strategy, helping the team create and execute digital marketing campaigns to attract both consumers and vendors:

Developing marketing content for social media, email campaigns, and blog posts that align with the marketplace’s brand and mission.

Engaging with food communities online, including influencers, bloggers, and potential partner platforms, to build awareness and generate buzz around the marketplace.

Managing email marketing campaigns targeting vendors and consumers, using tools like Mailchimp or similar platforms, ensuring messaging is clear, persuasive, and actionable.

Analyzing campaign performance through metrics such as click-through rates, engagement rates, and conversions, to continuously optimize marketing strategies.

3. Marketplace Operations & Project Management

You will help ensure the marketplace runs smoothly by contributing to operational and project management tasks, including:

Assisting in the day-to-day management of the marketplace, ensuring listings are accurate, orders are processed efficiently, and users are supported.

Tracking the progress of different parts of the project, identifying potential roadblocks, and working with the team to implement solutions.

Developing and improving operational workflows to make vendor onboarding, order management, and customer service more efficient and scalable.

Participating in daily team meetings, providing status updates, discussing challenges, and collaborating on solutions.

4. Customer Service & Vendor Support

The marketplace’s success depends on strong relationships with both vendors and consumers. You will:

Respond to vendor and customer inquiries via email, phone, or live chat, providing timely, professional, and helpful assistance.

Troubleshoot issues related to vendor profiles, bookings, and payments, escalating technical issues when necessary.

Collect feedback from vendors and customers, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes to enhance the user experience.

5. Web Development & Platform Optimization

You will also contribute to the development and optimization of the platform, ensuring it runs smoothly and provides a seamless experience for all users:

Testing platform features to ensure all functionalities (search filters, booking systems, payment gateways, etc.) work properly across devices and browsers.

Collaborating with developers to implement new features and optimize the platform’s performance based on user feedback and analytics.

Monitoring website analytics to track user behavior, identify trends, and suggest improvements to increase engagement and conversion rates.

Ensuring mobile responsiveness by testing the website on different devices and troubleshooting any issues.

Expectations:

Work Independently: You will be expected to take ownership of your tasks and deliver results without needing to be micromanaged. We are looking for interns who are self-starters and problem solvers.

Be a Team Player: While we expect independence, you will also need to collaborate with your fellow interns and team members. Open communication, sharing progress, and working together are key to the project’s success.

High-Level of Accountability: You must be committed to delivering high-quality work and sticking to deadlines. You will need to take personal responsibility for your performance.

Attend All Meetings: Daily meetings are a must. These sessions are crucial for staying aligned with the team, receiving updates, and addressing any roadblocks or new developments.

Problem-Solving: This is a hands-on role where you’ll learn by doing. Expect to tackle challenges and figure things out on your own, with guidance from the team when necessary.

What You Will Gain:

By the end of this internship, you will have developed a diverse set of skills and gained invaluable experience, including:

Comprehensive Understanding of how a digital marketplace operates from the ground up, including vendor relations, platform management, marketing, and operations.

Hands-on experience with tools and platforms related to e-commerce, digital marketing, and project management.

Real-world problem-solving skills, having taken part in developing solutions for a live, functioning marketplace.

Networking Opportunities with vendors and partners in the food industry, helping to build a professional network.

Experience in project management, learning to track, prioritize, and complete complex tasks in a fast-paced, real-world environment.

• A unique opportunity to contribute directly to a high-impact project, with results that you can point to as your own work.

Requirements:

• Must have a bachelor’s or master’s degree (or currently pursuing one) in a relevant field such as business, marketing, computer science, or communications.

• Strong computer skills and comfort working with tools like Google Workspace, project management software (e.g., Asana, Trello), and digital marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp).

• Experience with e-commerce, digital platforms, or marketing is highly preferred but not required.

• Ability to work independently and self-manage tasks, demonstrating a proactive attitude and strong time management skills.

• Must be organized, with attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines consistently.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage professionally with vendors and customers.

• Must be able to attend all daily meetings from 9 AM - 3 PM and work within those hours for the duration of the internship.
