Job Description for Wellness Peer Educator

 

Wellness peer educators provide culturally competent campus-wide health and wellness awareness, prevention, and education through planning, development, and implementation of presentations, outreach, and programming in alignment with the goals of the University of Akron Health Services of Student Affairs.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Lead group presentations and discussions on various wellness-related topics.
  • Participate in the conceptualization, planning, development, and implementation of both small and large-scale outreach activities, events, and programs.
  • Attend required training and regular planning meetings.
  • Provide feedback to the University of Akron Health Education and Wellness staff.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must attend all sessions of the introductory peer education training and pass the final exam
  • Must be a current University of Akron undergraduate student with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5
  • Must plan to be a student at the University of Akron for the next academic year after being certified

Work Schedule and Compensation:

Approximately 1- 3 hours per week hybrid: may work remotely at times but must be available to attend regular planning and processing meetings, as well as available for required peer education training and programming for at least one academic year.

Compensation will be $11 an hour once the required peer education training and certification has been successfully completed.

 

Supervision:

The peer educators are supervised by the Coordinator of Health Education and Wellness in Health Services.
