Records and Reports Clerk

The City of Oshkosh is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to join our Police Department as a Records and Reports Clerk. This role is crucial for maintaining accurate and timely police records and reports, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws, and providing exceptional service to the public and departmental staff.

 

This is a full-time, hourly position with a generous benefits package. Pay ranges from $21.37 - $24.42 per hour, depending on qualifications.  Work takes place Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; no weekends or holidays.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Management: Accurately input, update, and maintain police records and reports in the departmental database.  Ensure all records are filed and retrievable in accordance with record retention policies.
  • Compliance and Confidentiality:  Adhere to all applicable state and federal laws, including open records laws and privacy regulations.  Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive information.
  • Communication and Customer Service:  Respond to public and internal requests for information and records in a professional and timely manner.  Provide excellent customer service at the public counter, via phone, and through email.
  • Report Generation:  Prepare and distribute routine and specialized reports as requested by management or law enforcement officers.

 

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • 2 years of clerical experience involving customer service and data entry
  • 1 - 2 years of experience in a court, law enforcement or legal environment is preferred

 

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience with records management software and databases; familiarity with law enforcement records systems is a plus

 

Skills and Attributes:

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
