SUMMARY:
We are seeking a motivated intern to join our team for a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience and contribute to the daily operations of our department. The intern reports to the Manager of GIS (Geographic Information Systems). This is an in-person internship and is based in our Jacksonville, FL office. The internship is part-time (20-30 hours per week) during the Spring 2025 semester with a pay rate of $15 per hour.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in preparing, collecting, processing, and presenting GIS data for key company projects.
  • Perform manual edits to GIS data, in both geometric and tabular formats.
  • Coordinate with office staff to ensure efficiency and accuracy in resulting data.
  • Review spatially formatted data for accuracy.
  • Query geographic data to ensure correct attribution.
  • Create accurate metadata for the GIS database.
  • Coordinate with field crew to validate complex areas of the railroad system.
  • Provide regular updates to the supervisor on task progress.
  • Performance of other duties, as required.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Proficiency in O365 (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Experience with Esri ArcGIS Pro and/or other GIS software preferred but not required.
  • Strong focus on accuracy and attention to detail in all tasks.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and maintain objectivity.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse teams.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR CREDENTIALS:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
