Systems Engineer Internship
Position Overview and Objectives:
Seeking a talented and self-motivated System Engineering intern located in Farmington Hills, MI. The ideal candidate will be eager to gain experience in system engineering principles as applied to complex electronic controllers. The electronic control units may integrate with other mechatronic components such as sensors and mechanical actuators. The ideal candidate will bring a positive attitude and be ready to understand requirements management and DFMEAs. This internship will help the control unit engineering team establish a requirements library to be used on future projects.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Systems engineering team with requirements and DFMEA management
- Assist with requirement sorting to identify system, software, and hardware requirements and disseminate them to appropriate teams.
- Interface with internal and/or external customers to clarify requirements and gain detailed knowledge about system operation.
- Assist as needed with system block diagrams and system DFMEAs.
- Help develop concepts and specifications for validation testing as requested.
- Help maintain complete traceability between requirements, implementation, and test results.
- Assist with specification development as requested.
- Assisting with root cause analysis and issue resolution as requested.
- Gain exposure to design reviews, and contributing material if asked.
- Comply with the designated ISO / TS 16949 responsibilities, Health & Safety (H&S) rules and practices.
- Perform any other assignments from time to time as management so directs.

Qualifications:
- Willing to learn and contribute as a student engineer.
- Learn and contribute to resolving complex issues in creative, efficient, and effective ways.
- Flexible to work on assignments that may change with customer requirement updates.
Special Knowledge / Skills:
- English: Fluent in written and verbal communication.
- Basic knowledge of failure analysis and electronic circuits.
- Basic knowledge of electric motors and controls.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and electrical schematics.
Additionally, the ability to work independently once direction is given, will be considered.
Education: On track to receive a bachelor's in the following engineering disciplines: electrical or mechanical (with mechatronics focus)
Experience: Applicable experience outside the classroom, and demonstrated knowledge outside classroom settings.
Working Conditions:
Physical Demands: Sitting and standing for extended periods of time in an office and industrial lab environment. Capable of lifting equipment and apparatus repetitively weighing between 25lbs to 30lbs.
Travel: Potentially visit customer or vehicle test sites, if needed.
Work Environment: In office at least 3 days a week, consistent with company policy.
