Duties

You must successfully complete an intensive 8-10 week basic training conducted at Grand Coulee. (see Qualifications) (Travel/Transportation are covered by sponsoring organization) If applicant is unable to attend any part of the academy assigned, they will be removed from consideration.

The primary duties of the Lead Security Guard at the full-performance level include:

  • Directing the day-to-day work of personnel assigned on a variety of assignments, particularly in the areas of equipment and personnel inspections, shift assignments, and rotations.
  • Enforcing applicable rules and regulations governing vehicle use, parking, building or other facility access, and breaches in physical security controls (locks, gates, electronic security systems, and barriers).
  • Informing employees about policies, procedures, and management practices as applicable.
  • Under emergency situations, may be called upon to assume command and control of a fully integrated small tactical response team, which requires the employee to lead peers in life or death situations.

You must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
You must be suitable for federal employment, determined by a background investigation.

You must maintain a valid State Driver's License at all times as the position requires operation of government vehicles on government and public roads. Failure to maintain a valid State Driver's License at all times will result in removal from the position.
You will be required to wear the Reclamation issued uniform while working.
You will be required to obtain a successful pre-employment physical examination by a licensed physician certifying your ability to perform the duties of this position. A physical exam may not be required if a comparable agency approved examination was performed within the last 12 months. The cost of the exam will be reimbursed by the agency.
You will be required to submit to a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment as a condition of employment. This position is also subject to random drug testing.
Travel is required approximately 10% of the time.
This position is designated as an emergency responder. Required to work more than 8 hours per day, shift work, on-call, weekends, and holidays. There are two tours for full-time permanent personnel operating 24 hours per day, seven days per week for the security response force program support.
The position requires employee to carry a firearm. To meet that requirement, the Lautenberg Amendment requires that the employee may not have any convictions of domestic violence, and the employee will be required to certify that they have no convictions.

Qualifications

 

In order to be rated as qualified for this position, the HR Office must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - this information must be clearly supported in the resume.

To qualify at the GS-08, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-07 level in federal service having demonstrated experience working with 1) a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved planning, coordinating or distributing guard workload among employees in accordance with established workflow, 2) administering training to ensure personnel are equipped to protect against threats to property and personnel, and 3) experience controlling access or patrolling restricted and limited access areas. Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular basis. Preferred candidates will have specialized experience gained through service in a combat arms, (i.e. infantry, armor, special operations) or combat support (i.e. military police, field artillery, military occupational specialty) in any of the armed services.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
