Communications Intern (Connected Future Labs, Pack Intern, Spring 2025)

**This internship is hosted by Connected Future Labs and sponsored by the Nevada Career Studio and ASUN.

Connected Future Labs

About Connected Future Labs:

Connected Future Labs is an agile R&D consulting company at the leading edge of technology. With a depth of expertise from circuits to machine learning and data science, Connected Future Labs develops technology to connect the dots across different domains and disciplines and create the next big thing.

Internship Description:

The Communications Intern will be part of a small team to document and tell the stories about a wearable biometric sensor called EmotiBit. EmotiBit launched in 2021, ranking in the top 2% of all-time Kickstarter campaigns and has been growing rapidly since. Sold in over 50 countries around the globe, EmotiBit is being used at NASA, Apple, MIT, Nike, Samsung and other Fortune 500 companies, startups and education institutions worldwide.

Duties/Responsibilities:

The intern will work with Connected Future Labs to write stories about EmotiBit with an empathetic engineering literacy (understanding the technology and how it impacts people). The person doesn’t need to have a deep engineering background, but they need to be comfortable with the language and concepts.

This person will be responsible for building a collection of EmotiBit success stories and will, later, work with a top-tier PR agency to get circulation of those stories across a wide range of platforms.

Goals and Expectations of the Intern:

  • Complete 120 hours of work as an intern (8-15 hours per week, 15 weeks total)
  • The intern will be expected to be self-motivated and Connected Future Labs will help the intern set goals for a project that can be completed in the limited time period of the internship.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be a degree-seeking undergraduate student at the University of Nevada, Reno during the Spring ‘25 semester
  • The intern that we'd love to talk to is a life-long learner, adept at critical thinking, who wants to dive into learning new skills and tackle challenging problems to make the world a better place.
  • Proven experience in writing - ideally presenting technical topics to less-technical audiences
  • A passion for communicating the passion of their subjects. These stories need to be about the users and their projects - EmotiBit must be framed as an enabler, not a focus
  • An eye for the unseen gems. We want new angles put on the table.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate would have experience in some or all of the following:

  • Photoshop or Illustrator
  • Final Cut or Premiere or similar
  • Social media & community building
  • Wordpress
  • Arduino, wearables, sensing signals from the body

Desired Schedule for Intern:

We will work with the intern’s class schedule. Office hours will vary based on availability. Preferred shift lengths are ½ to full day (4 - 8 hrs) to facilitate engagement and learning.

PIGP internships require interns to complete 120 hours during their internship. It is the intern’s responsibility to ensure this requirement is met.
