Fire Safety Technician

We are seeking a Fire Safety Technician to join our team for a short-term assignment of 2-3 months. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting safety inspections, maintaining fire safety equipment, and providing invaluable support to the facilitation of VAPAHCS’ Green Environmental Management Program and Green Environmental Management System (GEMS).

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Conduct monthly safety inspections of all fire extinguishers and fire safety equipment across all VAPAHCS campuses and buildings.
  • Assist with the execution of fire evacuation drills across all VAPAHCS campuses and buildings.
  • Collaborate with representatives from the contracted Fire Extinguisher Service company during annual inspections, hydrostatic testing, and extinguisher change-outs.
  • Communicate findings effectively, both orally and in writing, and maintain clear records.
  • Correct, update, and maintain databases and electronic logs related to safety inspections.
  • Provide courteous and respectful service to VA customers while supporting the VA mission.
  • Maintain the security of physical keys and electronic access cards for secure areas.
  • Conduct basic facility inspections to ensure compliance with fire and life safety standards.
  • Support activities related to Environmental Management, Construction Safety, Emergency Management, and Industrial Hygiene.
  • Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as needed.

     

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent degree.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Familiarity with operating fire alarm panels and resetting fire alarms.
  • Valid California Non-Commercial Driver’s License or ability to obtain one within 30 days.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read basic drawings (e.g., fire equipment maps) and apply relevant safety codes.
  • Experience with databases and record maintenance.
  • Commitment to safety and environmental sustainability.
  • Ability to obtain necessary clearances and certifications.
  • Must lawfully reside in the United States and be eligible for employment (Planate does not sponsor visas or work permits).
