Oxy’s Summer Intern Program runs from May to August for a full 12 weeks. As an Oxy intern, you will have the opportunity to experience real-life projects with hands-on participation in Oxy’s core businesses. Your summer project will be designed to add value to our operations while providing an opportunity to observe your skills and competencies in action. Oxy interns are paired with a manager and mentor in order to provide technical guidance throughout the project timeline. In addition to attending training and development courses, lunch and learns, field trips, and social activities, interns will be given the chance to meet with Oxy executives and leadership throughout the internship. We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to fill the position of Community Relations & Employee Engagement Intern within our Community Relations & Employee Engagement group based in Houston, Texas. This role offers an exciting opportunity to apply your classroom knowledge and gain hands-on experience in fostering community relationships and enhancing employee engagement within our organization. The intern will work closely with various departments and will be exposed to aspects of philanthropic giving, community partnerships, employee engagement and volunteerism in the community. 

 

Responsibilities 

 Support Oxy’s community relations, employee engagement programs, and charitable investments portfolio. 

Gather, analyze, and report metrics around employee engagement, involvement, and programs. 

Assist with employee engagement events and coordinate logistics for local volunteer activities. 

Identify and write community event recaps and employee engagement stories for internal distribution on the company intranet site. 

Articulate the company’s mission, strategy and landscape of company philanthropy and community development to employees in an engaging and compelling way, connecting the dots for employees, and raising awareness of community outreach, advocacy efforts and volunteerism. 

Develop an understanding of the company’s business operations, goals, and objectives in order to set priorities and goals for your summer project.

Qualifications 

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. 

Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). 

 Experience with social media platforms and content creation is a plus. 

Client-centered focus and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with initiative and drive for results. 

Strong writing ability is a plus. 

Passion for community service and employee engagement. 

Excellent organizational and time management skills. 

Creativity and a proactive approach to problem-solving. 

Desire to pursue a career within Community Relations or Corporate Responsibility/Sustainability. · Must apply to Oxy’s job application at Students & Graduates (oxy.com) to be considered. 

Pursuing a Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Business Administration, Human Resources, Corporate Responsibility/Sustainability, Marketing, Communications, or related field. 

Must have a graduation date of December 2025 – May 2027. 

 Must maintain minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
