Social Media Assistant
The Kent Conservation District (KCD) is a local government agency that assists residents and landowners with the conservation, management, and wise use of the natural resources of Kent County. We assist residents through countywide resource assessments, conservation resource distributions, conservation education, and one-on-one technical assistance.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The KCD Social Media Assistant internship is designed to support interest in professional opportunities within the natural resource conservation and/or marketing-related fields.
The internship position is a 16-week part-time position (estimated 10 hours per week), which begins in December 2024. Work hours are flexible and most of the work may be performed remotely.
Position Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist with the design and execution of social media campaigns
- Plan and implement an annual social media calendar for KCD
- Create weekly and monthly editorial calendars to promote company brands on various social media websites
- Create and distribute content such as blogs, infographics, videos and press releases on social media and traditional news outlets
- Track social media engagement to identify high-performing ideas and campaigns for scalability
- Support marketing team at live and online event
- Perform social media marketing research
- Assist on influencer campaign strategy
- Respond to comments and DMs on social media platforms
- Brainstorm and research ideas for original content
- Create compelling graphics to share across social channels
- Write social media captions that speak to the company’s target audience
- Help create and edit short-form videos
- Develop new strategies for increasing engagement
- Assist with photo/video content shoots
- Ensure brand message is consistent
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Have completed the first year of an undergraduate program.
- Currently enrolled in a relevant field of study (natural resources, agriculture, forestry, biology, conservation, marketing, communications, etc.)
- Reliable access to a computer with a dependable internet connection.
- Reliable personal transportation
- U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
- A 3.0 minimum grade point average on a 4.0 scale
ABILITIES:
- Very strong written communication skills.
- Experience using Meta, Canva, and other web-based tools.
- Strong background in social media platforms (FB, Instagram, and others)
- Entrepreneurial and able to solve problems independently and creatively.
- Self-motivated and goal-oriented.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Comfortable with a hybrid remote working environment.
- Able to work cooperatively with district personnel and other agencies.
- Must be able to pass a security background check.
SALARY, BENEFITS, WORK HOURS, LOCATION
This position will be based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Work time will mostly be remote with occasional visits to the KCD office. The Kent Conservation District office is located at 3200 Eagle Park Dr NE STE 100c Grand Rapids MI 49525.
This internship is designed to benefit a student with, not only relevant work experience, but also building a professional network, real-world work application, and conservation career discovery opportunity.
This is a temporary, (estimated 10 hours per week for 16 weeks) hourly position paying $0.00/hour. Work hours will be flexible with regular check-ins on work progress. Arrangements could be made for academic credit. Speak with your advisor for details.
