Civil Engineer Trainee - Field Engineering Section, Division of Dam Safety
THE POSITION
The Department of Environmental Protection is seeking candidates who are dedicated to protecting the health and safety of Pennsylvania's citizens and environment. This is a posting for a field engineering position located in the general Southeast area of the state. This position is full-time telework eligible depending on experience and situation. The mission of the Division is to protect the lives and property of Pennsylvanians living downstream of dams by preventing dam failures through technical analysis, inspection, monitoring and compliance. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This Civil Engineer Hydraulic position functions as a Project Specialist in the Division of Dam Safety’s Field Engineering Section and is involved in performing a variety of journey-level civil engineering work including hydrology and hydraulics and general monitoring requirements for dams under the provisions of the Dam Safety and Encroachments Act, including the Chapter 105 Dam Safety and Waterway Management rules and regulations, the Clean Streams Law and the Flood Plain Management Act.
If this position is filled as a Civil Engineer Trainee, the incumbent will participate in a one-year formal on-the-job training program to learn the duties of a Civil Engineer Hydraulic.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment.
- Work hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday, with a 1-hour lunch.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework), full-time up to 5 days a week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Norristown.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $64,861.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Four years of civil engineering experience, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
- A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, or in a closely related field, which includes or was supplemented by major course work in civil engineering; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes possession of an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
Conditions of Employment:
- This position also requires possession of a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.
Other Requirements:
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
