ABOUT OUR INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Weissman's Summer Internship Program is an extraordinary opportunity for students pursuing careers in the fashion and apparel manufacturing industries. For over a decade, our program has been a launching pad for future leaders, providing 10 weeks of full-time, paid experience. 

Interns gain hands-on exposure across departments such as Merchandising, Technical Design, Pattern Making, and Marketing, all while being guided by experienced mentors and industry professionals. With professional development seminars and direct involvement in real-world projects, this program offers unparalleled insights into the fashion industry’s dynamic landscape.

JOB SUMMARY

The Design Internship at Weissman offers an immersive experience for students passionate about fashion and design, specifically in the dancewear industry. This 10-week, full-time, paid internship provides the opportunity to work alongside experienced mentors and collaborate with cross-functional teams to create designs that reflect the Weissman brand. From developing initial sketches to participating in prototype fittings, interns will gain hands-on experience in the entire design process, while also assisting with technical flats, sketch revisions, and photoshoot preparations.

In addition to contributing to real-world design projects, interns will conduct trend and market research, helping to identify new innovations in fabrics, accessories, and styles. At the end of the program, interns will present a final design project to Weissman’s leadership, offering exposure to industry professionals and the potential for future employment. RESPONSIBILITIES

• Collaborate on Design Projects: Work closely with your assigned mentor to design costume or dancewear garments that reflect the Weissman brand, contributing to the development of garments from initial sketches to final construction.
• Provide Technical Support: Complete technical flats, sketch revisions, and color updates using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to assist Design team members with various projects.
• Participate in Prototype Fittings: Attend prototype fittings with the Design Mentor and Product Integrity teams, offering support in refining designs and ensuring garments meet quality standards.
• Conduct Trend Research: Perform research on dancewear trends, fabrics, accessories, and techniques to identify new opportunities for innovation and competitive differentiation.
• Assist with Market Research: Gain knowledge of the Weissman customer and competitive landscape by conducting market research, helping inform design decisions.
• Photoshoot Assistance: Collaborate with the Marketing Photo Styling team during photoshoots by organizing merchandise, dressing models, and prepping garments to ensure they are ready for photography.
• Support Sample Management: Help track and manage design samples used for internal presentations and photoshoots, ensuring samples are properly organized and maintained.
• Contribute to Final Design Project: Develop and present a cross-functional design project at the end of the internship, incorporating feedback from various teams and stakeholders.
• Manage Timelines and Deadlines: Adhere to internal deadlines for both design tasks and internship deliverables, ensuring timely completion of the final design project.
• Engage in Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with teams such as Merchandising, Technical Design, and Marketing to gain a comprehensive understanding of the product life cycle and contribute to the design process.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be currently enrolled in a college or university or a recent graduate.
• Working towards a degree in Fashion/Apparel Design, Fashion Merchandising, Retail and Supply Chain Management or related field.
• Ability to relocate to St. Louis, Missouri for the summer.
• Knowledge of dance or activewear is a plus.
• Available to participate in our full-time internship program from June to August 2025.  Work Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm.
• Eligible to work in the US without restrictions.
