Community Development Fellow
Work with JOIN as a QVS Fellow!
About the position:
The Community Development Fellow (CDF) engages community members accessing services in JOIN’s Dayspace through trauma-informed, non-judgemental, affirmative relationship-building in day-to-day provision of services as a member of the Dayspace team; and, completes surveying, data collection and needs assessment, and event
implementation to support JOIN’s Dayspace program development.
This role serves alongside a diverse staff and engages individuals in a highly vulnerable population–adults experiencing houselessness in the Portland metro area, where Black and African American, Indigenous, and LGBTQIA2S+ community members experience houselessness and related risks at disproportionately high rates. We meet daily needs to provide meals, showers and hygiene products, severe weather survival gear, socialization, system resource navigation, advocacy, a free mailing address, and DMV waivers to get identification; as a member of the Dayspace team, this role contributes to daily housekeeping tasks to maintain a safe and pleasant space for staff and community members. In addition to these services, this role will be tasked with identifying new and additional opportunities to meet community needs.
Qualified applicants have strong communication skills and enjoy getting to know new people; are open-minded, curious, and non-judgemental; enjoy planning parties or community events; and have an eagerness to apply research skills to independent problem-solving. This role is a great opportunity for anyone interested in social work, social activism, government, health care systems, law, or work in the medical field. The CDF is closely supported by the whole Dayspace team–a Dayspace Worker, Dayspace Coordinator, Program Manager–but has significant opportunities for independent,
creative thinking and program implementation.
