Research Intern

Job Title: Research Intern (Undergraduate Student) 

Location: Hybrid Work (Remote / New York, NY) 

 

About Black Public Media

Black Public Media (BPM) is a non-profit media organization that supports the development  of visionary content creators and distributes stories about the global Black experience to  engage audiences and inspire a more equitable and inclusive future. 

 

About The Role

We are seeking a dedicated undergraduate student intern to work on an archiving  project. Intern will also conduct preliminary research on the revenue-generating business  models of major content providers/distributors of public television programming  nationwide. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

• Develop a comprehensive inventory list (with metadata) of BPM’s media collection  to ensure they are easily searchable and accessible. The intern may need to explore  and recommend specialized software and classification systems to help organize  the media collection. 

• Research effective methods to preserve both physical and digital media formats,  ensuring their longevity and preventing deterioration. This may involve identifying  companies that specialize in digitizing older formats, such as film reels or VHS  tapes, and repairing damaged physical media. 

• Research the revenue-generating business models of major content  providers/distributors of public television programming nationwide. 

 

Qualifications: 

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program and majoring in Media/Film Studies,  History, Business Administration, or a related field. 

• Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to collect and synthesize  information from various sources. 

• Familiarity with media arts organizations, public television, and or distribution  models preferred. 

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively. • An interest in documentary film history and cultures from around the African  diaspora plus. 

• Ability to start ASAP.

Compensation: 

• This internship offers course credit as compensation, in lieu of monetary payment,  upon successful completion of the program.  

• Credit eligibility is subject to the approval of the student’s academic institution and  adherence to their specific guidelines.
