The Assistant Transportation Finance Specialist will be part of the Indiana Division's Finance and Administrative Team and will support the Division in enhancing FHWA's stewardship - ensuring accountability of Federal funds and achieving organizational excellence in delivering the Federal-aid Highway and Transportation Programs. This position plays an integral role in delivering the Federal-aid Highway Program to Indiana, and in authorizing Federal reimbursement for transportation projects.

As an Assistant Transportation Finance Specialist, you will:

  • Independently perform recurring assignments gradually increasing in difficulty and complexity to administer, analyze, and steward the FHWA financial management programs in the Division Office.
  • Consult with the Finance & Program Management Supervisor, Financial Manager, and other staff to analyze situations and make recommendations and suggestions for improvement and modification of State practices to assure compliance with FHWA regulations and to optimize the use of Federal funds.
  • Verify that project agreement information submitted through the financial database (FMIS) complies with Federal requirements and be eligible for Federal-aid participation.
  • Perform a wide range of administrative duties and be responsible for various other office management duties including surplus disposal.
  • Refer phone calls, visitors, and mail to the appropriate employees or addresses them personally.

The ideal candidate for this position is an individual looking to expand their knowledge and experience in governmental finance, budgets, and information control systems.

Additionally, the ideal candidate has experience providing a wide range of program management and administrative support in a quality manner, with a strong customer service focus and the ability to facilitate communication among office staff, other offices, and various partners.
