Job Summary:

The Office of the CIO (Chief Information Officer) is seeking an hourly Academic Wage: Technical Writer and Storyteller. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE ), 12-month, fixed-term position. This position is anticipated to last approximately one month.

As a Technical Writer and Storyteller for the Office of the CIO at Oregon State University, the individual will be responsible for the successful completion of the FY24 Annual Report (written and digital). This role will report to the Strategic Coordinator.

By leveraging their expertise in technical writing and storytelling, the individual will play a crucial role in delivering a comprehensive and engaging annual report that highlights OSU IT’s contributions to advance the university’s mission and values by fostering agility and innovation. Final deliverables will include the written document and the storyboard/framework for the digital version. This is a temporary position and work is anticipated to be completed by 10/31/2024.

Key Responsibilities

50%—Annual Report Development: Write, edit, and compile the Office of the CIO’s annual report, ensuring it accurately reflects the year’s achievements, challenges, and future goals. The report should be clear, concise, and engaging, catering to both technical and non-technical audiences. 
10%—Data Collection and Analysis: Collaborate with the Strategic Coordinator and various UIT executive directors to gather necessary data and insights. Analyze the information to highlight key accomplishments and areas for improvement.

10%—Storytelling and Content Creation: Craft compelling narratives that showcase the impact of the OSU IT initiatives on the university community. This includes writing case studies, success stories, and feature articles that bring the report to life.

10%—Editing and Proofreading: Review and refine the content to ensure clarity, accuracy, and consistency. Adhere to the university’s style guide and branding guidelines.

10%--Project Management: Manage the timeline and workflow for the annual report project. Coordinate with Strategic Coordinator, IT Strategic Communications Coordinator, and UIT team members to ensure timely delivery of high-quality content.

10%—Visual Content Integration: Work with IT Strategic Communications Coordinator and Media Services team to incorporate visual elements such as videos, charts, graphs, and images that enhance the digital report’s readability and impact.

What You Will Need

• Bachelor’s degree
• 5 years Higher Education Experience
• Strategic Communications Experience
• Experience working with C-suite leadership
• Strong written communication skills
• Strong verbal communication skills
• Ability to foster and promote the values of DEIA and demonstrate a commitment to inclusive excellence in their work.

What We Would Like You to Have

• Experience producing high level IT strategy documentation
• Master’s Degree
