Typical starting pay for this position:  $19.96/hour - $26.41/hour 

Plus, Direct Care Pay Ten Dollars per week
 

 

YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS: Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

Summary: 

To Monitor training and development therapeutic programs. To plan and deliver direct services to acute psychiatric patients with an emphasis on stabilizing symptoms and enhancing functional life skills.


 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Associates degree from an accredited institute of higher education with major study in adapted physical education, recreational therapy, occupational therapy, education psychology, counselling, health related-field, or sociology. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience: Three years of experience in the field of public or private school education, counselling, leading activity-based programs, allied health, or experience in an acceptable community service program working with individuals who have mental illness or other disabilities/special needs. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Must possess a valid driver’s license in the state in which the employee resides, with appropriate endorsements required for the type of vehicle being operated. Must possess or successfully complete a Defensive driving Course as approved by the New Hampshire Safety Council within the first six (6) months of employment. The applicant’s Motor vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards as established by the hiring agency.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Satisfactory completion of specified written and physical components of the Mental Health Worker Training Program within first four weeks of employment at New Hampshire Hospital. Must be able to perform continuous strenuous activities such as frequent reaching, bending, or lifting as well as performing work activities which require fine manual dexterity or coordination.

 

Responsibilities:

• Develops, schedules, and implements individualized activity treatment programs in the areas of social, leisure, physical, vocational and wellness in individual and groups programs to meet patient needs and work to treatment goals. Provides direct services to patients approximately 80% of on duty hours based on work assignment, which will include working evenings and weekends in some combination.

• Observes and identifies symptoms of mental illness related to age and disability needs. Assesses and evaluates patient needs. Plans and implements therapeutic activities to address those needs.

• Documents and reports relevant data in a thorough and timely manner in patients’ medical record. Possesses the basic computer skills to successfully use the Rehab Program, communicate via e-mail, and produce reports. 

• Collaborates with treatment team, Rehabilitation colleagues and other disciplines to provide safe and therapeutic services to patients. Demonstrates effective and timely verbal and written communications with treatment team and department members.

• Attends and contributes to multi-disciplinary treatment team, department meetings, and hospital wide committees as assigned. Provides coverage to other units of the hospital as needed.

• Maintains treatment areas and equipment in a safe and therapeutic manner and assures that supplies are sufficient to meet patient and program needs. Requests purchase of equipment and supplies relevant to assigned program area.

• Participates in educational activities relevant to the needs of patients.

• Documents and reports relevant data in a thorough and timely manner in patients’ medical record. Utilizes basic computer skills to successfully operate the Electronic Health Record (EHR), communicate through e-mail, and produce reports.

• Possesses the minimum physical requirements to participate in patient treatment activities.

 

Staff Workplace Safety Accountabilities

Complies with established hospital and departmental policies and procedures by:

 

  • Performing accountabilities in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Communicating with supervisor's issues related to workplace safety (i.e., ergonomics, body mechanics, environment, equipment, etc...).
  • Reporting on the job injuries to supervisor IMMEDIATELY.
  • Attending training programs, as appropriate.
