POSITION TITLE: Archaeology- Senior Archeologist
JOB SUMMARY: Sapphos Environmental, Inc. is an environmental planning and resource management company located in Pasadena. We are currently recruiting a Senior Archeologist I to join our cultural resources team. The Senior Archeologist is a core member of the team responsible for successfully executing all aspects of project implementation.
Under the supervision of the Cultural Resources Manager, this full-time, permanent position will entail project management, including schedule management; Phase I, II, and III investigations and mitigation monitoring; preparation of technical reports; analysis of project impacts on archaeological resources under NEPA, CEQA, and NHP.
The Senior Archaeologist may serve as a Field Director or Principal Investigator based on work experience and education.
Responsibilities:
- Leading fieldwork (survey, testing, data recovery, and monitoring), archival research, technical report writing, state and federal archaeological permitting, data collection and compilation, and GIS mapping.
- Gathering data and other information to be used in the preparation of environmental reports.
- Working both independently and under the supervision of senior staff.
- Leading or assisting with project management and preparing proposal scopes and budgets.
- Providing specialist technical advice on cultural resource management to clients.
- Liaising and developing positive relationships with clients
- Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulatory framework, including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), National Historic Preservation Act, and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
- Ability to organize data in an efficient and clear manner.
- Interpreting and recording data, conducting analyses, and comparing findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
- Working independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility and willingness to support multiple projects, including occasional travel.
- Being innovative and a problem solver.
- Handling multiple tasks and communicating priorities to the manager.
- Participating in marketing and business development efforts in pursuit of new clients and projects.
REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS:
- Experience in California cultural resources management with a working command of federal and state cultural resources statutes
- Operational knowledge of the prehistory and history of California and the Southwest
- Experience in the inventory and evaluation of prehistoric and historic archaeological resources
- Experience writing quality regulatory compliance documents
- Experience in California cultural resources management with a working command of federal and state cultural resources statutes
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Satisfaction of the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards for Archaeology.
- Registering for Professional Archaeologists (RPA) status is required.
- MA/MS in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, or a closely related field.
- 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education in historic and/or prehistoric archaeology and cultural resources management.
- Willingness/ability to travel and conduct fieldwork throughout Southern California.
- A valid driver’s license
Salary: $69,00,000- $104,000 DOE
