Location will be determined by the agency/hiring manager based on the needs of the agency and the experience level of the candidate.
The incumbent will be a member of a traffic squad in the Road Design Office performing design activities. They are assigned particular projects to design traffic signal plans, roadway lighting plans and pavement marking plans. This includes analyzing traffic volumes for number of lanes, level of service and queue lengths; perform warrant justification for the installation of traffic signals and roadway lighting; conduct traffic studies and reviewing traffic impact studies.

The total compensation of Hourly Wage + State/Federal Benefits for a typical year for entry level Traffic Design Engineer is approximately $88,469.00 annually.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Applicants with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field is preferred.
Knowledge of:
- engineering principles and practices as applied to highway construction and traffic safety;
- state and federal laws and regulations governing traffic safety and engineering processes;
- department and federal policies and procedures regarding project planning, development, and design;
- Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD);
- Highway Capacity Manual;
- National Electrical Codes.
Skill to:
- general computer operation including Microsoft Office products;
- operate Highway Capacity and Synchro Software;
- operate Lighting Design Software;
- serve as a project manager for traffic engineering projects;
- communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and public speaking.
Ability to:
- establish and maintain positive effective working relationships with internal and external customers;
- manage multiple projects simultaneously;
- organize, analyze, calculate, and evaluate available information and draw upon reasonable conclusions;
- communicate information clearly and concisely and develop ideas in a logical sequence;
- interpret laws, regulations, and specifications governing engineering procedures and practices;
- enforce policies and define standards;
- develop procedures and determine the logical flow of work through the work unit;
- communicate information concisely and effectively.
