Summer Intern- Computational Biology
Overview
The Insmed Summer Internship Program gives students an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a corporate environment in the pharmaceutical industry, receive mentoring from highly skilled professionals, and work on dynamic team projects. Our 2025 Summer Intern program is a full-time (40 hours per week), paid internship that will begin in May 2025 and conclude in August 2025. The internship may present opportunities for rotational assignments within the function, and the intern will be assigned goals and objectives that will support the strategic business plan of the company. The Computational Biology group within Insmed’s Research organization develops novel technologies at the interface of data science and protein science and uses them to develop the next generation of biotherapeutics. The Intern will have the opportunity to work with machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques to optimize properties of candidate protein therapeutics.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
- Develop and apply machine learning methods to model and predict relationships among protein sequence, structure, dynamics, and function, learning from both general data as well as protein target-specific data
- Develop and apply algorithms to predict the fitness of artificial proteins based on their sequence, structure and dynamics.
- Develop and apply algorithms to generate and re-design biotherapeutic candidates under constraints regarding their sequence, structure, dynamics, and function
- Collaborate with computational and experimental colleagues to drive forward the design-evaluation cycle of the biotherapeutic candidates
- Clearly and efficiently present results to other Insmed team members.
Qualifications:
- Currently in full-time pursuit of an MS or PhD in computational biology, computer science, bioinformatics, or other quantitative discipline
- Knowledge of computer science, protein science and/or immunology.
- Desire to work at the interface of computational and biological sciences.
- Proficiency in Python and knowledge of both general-purpose ML and deep learning frameworks.
Salary Range
$23 - $35 an hour
Compensation & Benefits
