Local News Intern

The Dallas Morning News, Local News Department is hiring for a Local News Intern. This internship is for Summer 2025 and usually runs from the end of May through the end of August.

Local News interns will be assigned a variety of reporting tasks primarily focused on, but not limited to various events in and around North Texas. Assignments will be a mix of spot news, quick-turn and long-term enterprise coverage. This is a 12 week paid internship. 

It is strongly preferred that interns have a reliable vehicle.

Local news interns will also be expected to take smartphone photos and video and actively use social media in the newsgathering process.

Applicants should send no more than eight published clips or links. Clips may be reduced, but must be legible, or the application will be rejected. 

 

Job Requirements 

  • Strong research and writing skills
  • Must be able to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Attention to detail
  • Applicants must be enrolled in college and working toward a degree (associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate) or they may have graduated within six months prior to the internship start date.
  • It is strongly preferred that interns have a reliable vehicle.
  • All interns are expected to actively use social media in the newsgathering process and could be asked to take smartphone photos or videos.
  • Applicants should send no more than eight published clips or links. Clips may be reduced but must be legible.
  • The clips or links should focus on the specific position the applicant desires, but materials showing a variety of reporting and writing abilities are acceptable.
  • A cover letter and résumé with references are required with all applications.
