Community Engagement Intern - Spring 2025

The Community Engagement Intern is responsible for supporting high impact community outreach programs, events, and communication materials that promote the Credit Union’s partnerships with the community. Employees in this position will collaborate with our community partners, internal departments, credit union volunteers, and management to successfully plan and execute a variety of programs and events supporting our volunteer and philanthropic efforts. Employees will work with the organization to create programs that that promote the Credit Union in a positive and community-oriented way.

 

Work Location: Onsite at MSUFCU Headquarters campus in East Lansing, MI
Work Schedule: Part-Time 15-25/week; Hours will be scheduled based on student's school schedule and business hours (8:30AM - 5:00PM Monday-Friday) Occasional assignments to work during evenings and weekends if urgent need. 
Paid Hourly Internship - $16.00+/hour
Duration: Winter/Spring Semester with potential to continue into future semesters

An offer of employment with MSU Federal Credit Union and affiliates is contingent upon the agreed work arrangement (onsite/hybrid/remote) and work location. MSU Federal Credit Union may or may not be able to accommodate temporary or permanent changes to work arrangements or allow employment outside the city and/or state of residency in which the new hire resides at the time of offered employment. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists with developing high impact events and programs supporting our community involvement
  • Writes and designs various event/program communications to be distributed throughout the community and campus
  • Helps with special projects and programs to ensure success of the program
  • Takes photographs and video related to the community events and programs to be used for communication materials and document Credit Union history.
  • Assists with planning, organizing, and facilitating community events
  • Meets with the Community Engagement team biweekly to discuss progress on individual projects and for guidance in areas needing assistance
  • Assists the Community Engagement team with occasional administrative tasks to prepare for programs and presentation
  • Responsible for understanding the products and services offered by the Credit Union.
  • Participates in training activities within your department or branch and with the learning and talent development department; such training helps to ensure staff compliance with Credit Union policies and state and federal regulations and laws
  • Performs other duties and assist other employees, as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Actively pursuing Associate or Bachelor degree with a preference for areas of marketing, communications, journalism, advertising, education, graphic design, business, or related major
  • 1-2 years of previous work experience preferred, but not required
  • Ability to commute to events in East Lansing, Lansing, and surrounding communities
  • Demonstrates empathy and a commitment to providing superior member service
  • Must have a proficiency in or desire to learn Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and GoAnimate
  • Seeks continuous learning and improvement through feedback and other means
  • Ability to be a self-starter and work successfully in a team-oriented environment
  • Open to change and considerable variety in the workplace
  • High level of both written and oral communication skills, along with the ability to present information effectively to staff and members
  • Ability to multitask and handle a number of projects at once while meeting deadlines
  • Ability to analyze problems and to arrive at a proper solution
  • Displays high level of creativity and innovation with careful attention to detail
  • Fosters a positive, energizing, fun, and diverse environment

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • May be required to remain in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
  • Ability to operate standard office technology, equipment and tools, which may include many hours of computer and phone usage.
  • Occasionally needs to move about inside of office area
  • Exposure to potentially hazardous condition, i.e. robbery. Receives detailed instructions and procedures to be followed to minimize the exposure
  • This position requires onsite presence at the employee’s assigned location for all scheduled shifts.
