Want to learn about construction of community infrastructure for the summer? Join the Indian Health Service Division of Sanitation Facilities Construction! We are seeking students for on-site internships. Students will alongside full-time engineers and engineering technicians to plan, design and construct water, wastewater and solid waste facilities for American Indian communities.

Interns will learn to perform work, including:

  • Construction inspection of on-going construction work and assist with construction staking to include designating locations for trenching, excavations, and facilities.
  • Ensure necessary safety precautions are enforced on the job site to ensure safe working environment is maintained.
  • Record locations of homes, utilities, boundary points, etc. with the use of a mapping grade hand-held GPS unit.
  • Follow specific drafting standards established by the Area Office utilizing Auto CAD/Civil 3D software.
  • Gather and record all pertinent information in regards to the home site necessary for the design of the individual water and/or sewer system.

Internship start/end dates are flexible!
