Responsible Sourcing and Sustainability Intern

We are seeking a tech-savvy, passionate, and motivated individual to join our Responsible Sourcing and Sustainability team as an intern. In this role, you will have the unique opportunity to work with the Global Sustainability Office of a multinational company with ~50,000 employees and collaborate closely with our Purchasing and Legal/Compliance departments across the globe. This internship offers significant mentorship, training, and exposure to high-impact sustainability work within the automotive sector—an industry where responsible sourcing, ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), and human rights issues are gaining increasing attention.

Location: Auburn Hills, Michigan (in-person or fully remote)
Position Type: Internship (Full-Time Preferred, Part-Time Considered)
Duration: 4-12 months (semester minimum, ideally 6-12 months)

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in the development, collection, and analysis of sustainability and responsible sourcing data to support global initiatives
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure data integrity and alignment with best practices for responsible sourcing and ESG
• Support sustainability reporting and compliance efforts, including supplier assessments and audits
• Work with cross-functional teams in Purchasing, Legal, and Compliance to address emerging sustainability regulations and standards
• Participate in internal and industry-wide projects aimed at improving our supply chain transparency, human rights due diligence, and environmental footprint
• Contribute to the preparation of presentations, reports, and materials for internal and external stakeholders
• Stay current on industry trends, best practices, and new technologies in sustainability and responsible sourcing

Key Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing or recently graduated from a degree program in a related field (e.g., Sustainability, Supply Chain, Business, Law or pre-Law, Human Rights, Environmental Science, Data Management)
• A passion for sustainability, responsible sourcing, ESG, and human rights within supply chains 

• Tech-savvy with a strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint) and a willingness to enhance these skills
• A basic understanding of and/or willingness to learn data management and data integrity practices
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across multiple departments and regions
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail
• Motivated self-starter with a desire to make an impact in the sustainability space
• Previous internship or experience in ESG, sustainability, human rights, or data management is a plus but not required

Preferred Qualifications:

• Future MBAs, JDs/Lawyers, or those pursuing a career in sustainability are highly encouraged to apply
• Prior experience in the automotive industry or knowledge of responsible sourcing/sustainability trends in manufacturing is a plus
