Social Media Writing Intern
Student Life Communications (SLC) supports the Division of Student Life, providing creative solutions to maximize initiatives that serve students and the UT community. The Division of Student Life provides opportunities where students exemplify the Volunteer Spirit, inspiring others to learn, lead, and serve.
Overview:
As a member of the SLC student intern team, the social media writing intern I will contribute written and graphic content for use on UT Student Life social media channels. This internship will provide experience in professional editorial content creation, preparing students for future marketing positions, public relations positions, and content management positions.
Position Details
The social media writing intern II will work collaboratively and independently among a team consisting of both students and staff (graduate and professional). This position will allow students to do several types of writing, from website blogs, social stories especially for Facebook and Linkedin, and guest writing for the Division of Student Life’s Impact Report. Additionally, this position will have the possibility of promotion to the Social Media Writing Intern II after a year of working with Student Life Communications. As the social media writing intern I, this student will:
Research: the social media writing intern will continually find and implement best practices as it relates to social media, especially Facebook and LinkedIn content
Management: the social media intern is tasked with the following:
- Collaborating with the team to brainstorm content for socials
- Creating written editorial content, including blogs, stories, and captions for social creations
- Interviewing students and staff to cover Student Life events
Creative Marketing Services: As part of the team, the student members will use their voices and experiences as students on UT campus to develop creative marketing strategies to connect with students. This will help bridge gaps between professional staff and the student population.
Office Hours:
- Students will be scheduled to work within standard business hours; M-F, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
- Total hours per week is flexible with the student’s availability and desire but will not exceed 20 hours per week.
- Remote work can be requested on a case-by-case basis

- Prior experience leading interviews

- Prior experience representing an organization on social media
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to follow direction

- Ability to represent the University of Tennessee effectively and positively
- Exhibit leadership, initiative, dependability, discipline, and self-confidence
Internship Requirements

Students must be currently enrolled and full-time; must maintain a minimum 2.5 institutional GPA and maintain good conduct and academic standing; must pass a background check.
