Learning & Development Intern
AIDS Foundation Chicago (AFC) is seeking a creative and motivated individual to intern in its Human Resources and Talent Management (HRTM) Department. This is an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience while working at an active, upbeat non-profit.
The Learning & Development Intern will intern directly with the HRTM team on a wide range of projects related to training operations and instructional design. The Learning & Development intern will also have the opportunity to learn about HIV/AIDS prevention, care and advocacy, and other issues related to AFC’s mission.
This person will intern with the Senior Manager, Learning & Talent Development and the HRTM team.
This internship is designed to be both educational and practical. In this position, the intern will learn how to take skills acquired in an educational setting and apply them in the workplace. The intern will gain a better understanding of the role that HRTM and learning & development can play in a non-profit setting and be better prepared to work in the field of learning & development with a focus on nonprofit organizations.
The internship will begin in January 2025 and run through the beginning of May, with a minimum commitment of 3 months, though there is potential for extension. This internship is hybrid, with preferred in office days on Tuesdays or Thursdays. It is based at our office located at 200 West Monroe St.
The Learning & Development Intern will learn:
- How to manage, deliver, and track training programs within a Learning Management System (LMS).
- How to collect and analyze training program metrics to assess learning impact.
- How to design engaging learning experiences for both synchronous and asynchronous trainings on a budget.
- How to operationalize a training initiative.
- How to provide technical assistance for virtual trainings to support facilitators.
- Marketing strategies for upcoming trainings to increase learner engagement.
Qualifications:
- Current or recent enrollment in a graduate or undergraduate degree program with an interest and aptitude to work in nonprofit management, adult learning, or HRTM.
- Excellent communication skills, including active listening, as well as clear written and verbal communication.
- Understanding of adult learning principles and inclusive design.
- Ability to work in a group setting with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and handle multiple assignments simultaneously.
- Ability to understand and analyze information and survey results to evaluate skill gaps and training effectiveness.
- Ability to identify challenges and propose creative solutions.
- Proficient with presentation software such as Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Proficient with graphic design tools such as Adobe Express.
- Experience volunteering with nonprofit organizations desired.
- Able to commit to a minimum of three months for this internship.
All internships that require an onsite or in-person presence will require that the intern provide evidence they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 including having received a booster. Exemptions to this requirement for medical or religious reasons are available. Information about exemptions is available on request.
This is a volunteer internship. A stipend is available for those who qualify, with details to be provided during the interview process. AFC can also help interns obtain college credit, if available from your school. Interns will receive necessary training and staff supervision. Internships require at least 15 hours/week for a minimum of three months, though longer internships are preferred. Education, Instructional Design, Learning Technologies or Public Health, Psychology, Social Work, or Business majors are encouraged to apply.
