Adventure Staff
Position Summary:
Support Staff at Camp Woodie play a crucial role in managing all camp adventure activities and serving as secondary caregivers for our campers. They are responsible for ensuring the safety and proper maintenance of equipment across various adventure activities, including the zipline, high ropes course, climbing wall, team challenge course, canoes, and swimming hole. In addition to overseeing these activities, Support Staff guide campers in their personal development, helping them build confidence and strengthen their skills in a supportive and engaging environment.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Regularly inspect and maintain all equipment used in adventure activities, including the zipline, high ropes course, climbing wall, team challenge course, canoes, and swimming hole.
- Lead and facilitate adventure activities, including the zipline, high ropes course, climbing wall, and team challenge course, ensuring that all participants adhere to safety protocols and enjoy a rewarding experience.
- Serve as a lifeguard for canoeing and swimming hole activities, ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants in and around the water.
- Ensure that all adventure areas are kept clean and free of debris. Maintain a professional and organized environment in all activity areas.
- Assist with coordinating and facilitating large group activities, contributing to a smooth and enjoyable experience for all campers.
- Provide assistance with operations at the canteen and pro shop, including inventory management and customer service.
- Maintain high standards of safety and health in all activities for campers, staff and volunteers
- Model professionalism. Serve as a positive role model to campers and staff. Strictly adhere to general camp procedures and practices including: safety, sportsmanship, appropriate behavior, following schedules and cleanliness
- Participate as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, all-camp activities and camp functions
- Provide a positive atmosphere for campers and staff, by demonstrating enthusiasm, excitement and energy during camp activities
- Provide outstanding and consistent customer service to all camp guests
- Attend staff meetings and trainings
- Assist campers and staff in following emergency procedures (fire, evacuation, illness, injury, etc.) as needed
- The ability to have fun
- Complete all other duties as assigned by the Camp Leadership Team
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Currently certified or willing to become certified in First Aid/CPR before the summer (will be provided if needed)
- Successful participation and completion of staff training prior to beginning of camp
- Ability to observe camper behaviors, assess its appropriateness and apply appropriate management techniques, as well as enforce appropriate safety and emergency procedures to the situation
- Proven ability to deal effectively with people at all levels of responsibility; strong interpersonal skills; possess high degree of integrity
- Ability to take initiative, be flexible, use sound judgment, and work harmoniously with others
- Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities
- Proven skills in communication, organization, and human relations
- Willingness to work with diverse populations

Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or higher
- Must be 18 years old
Physical Requirements:
- Lead and participate in recreational activities which may include running, throwing, kicking & shooting
- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental weather and program threats, as well as maintaining constant supervision of campers, staff, and volunteers
- Ability to lift and/or maneuver weights of up to 35lbs
- Physical ability to respond to emergency situations and follow procedures.
- Endurance including: prolonged standing, bending, stooping, walking long distances, hiking, climbing, and stretching
- Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate outdoor equipment and camp activities
- Requires daily exposure to the sun, heat, insect and animals
