INTERN POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

 

Position Title: Jazz Road Intern

Pay: $15/hour

Time Commitment: 20 hours a week, In-Office = 12 hours, Remote = 8 hours

In-Office: Office Days/Times Available- Tuesday 9-4, Wednesday 9-4, Thursday 9-4

Projected Start: Fall 2024

Projected Duration: 12 months

Reports to: Drew Tucker, Director, Jazz
 

About South Arts: South Arts is a non-profit regional arts organization founded in 1975 to build on the South’s unique heritage and enhance the public value of the arts. South Arts’ work responds to the arts environment and cultural trends with regional perspective. South Arts offers an annual portfolio of activities designed to address the role of the arts in impacting the issues important to our region, and to link the South with the nation and the world through the arts.

The organization works in partnership with the state arts agencies of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. It is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, member states, foundations, businesses, and individuals.

 

Position Summary: We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented intern to assist with the daily operations of the Jazz Road grant program, a national initiative supporting jazz artists through tours and creative residencies. This position provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in grant management, event planning, communications, and general administrative support. The intern will work closely with the Jazz Road team and contribute to the success of this program, which emphasizes equitable pay and artist-centric programming.

 

Skills Required: 

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and basic experience with data entry.
  • Interest in arts, music, or nonprofit sectors preferred.
  • Currently enrolled in a college program (preferably business, communications, or related fields).

 

Specific Functions:

  • Data Entry & Management:
    • Assist with entering, updating, and managing grant application and reporting data in our systems.
    • Help maintain records of artist applications, grant decisions, and tour/residency logistics.
  • Event Planning Support:
    • Coordinate logistics for webinars, artist convenings, and listening sessions.
    • Help organize meetings and events related to Jazz Road, including arranging spaces, setting up Zoom calls, and preparing materials.
  • Outreach & Marketing:
    • Collaborate with the communications team to promote events and resources to artists.
    • Help manage Jazz Road’s public relations efforts, such as targeted outreach to jazz outlets (radio, magazines, blogs).
    • Track and report on media coverage and communications outcomes.
  • Contractor & Constituent Support:
    • Liaise with artists, contractors, and vendors regarding logistics and payments.
    • Monitor and follow up on artist reports and compliance with grant requirements.
  • Administrative Support:
    • Help prepare documents, reports, and summaries for internal and external stakeholders.
    • Perform general duties as needed, including scheduling and organizing files.
