Overview

Larimer County Engineering is thrilled to announce an opportunity for a Construction Inspector to join our Capital Improvements group! We are looking for individuals with experience in road and bridge construction and inspection of capital projects. Our Engineering Department specializes in surveying, engineering design, and construction management for infrastructure capital improvement projects across the county. Our responsibilities include development review, floodplain management, stormwater management, asset management, road and bridge capital projects, traffic engineering, and land acquisition.

The typical schedule for this position is 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturdays during busy seasons.

Responsibilities

Specifically, this position:

  • Provides construction inspection for projects ensuring budget, contract, and schedule compliance.
  • Conducts inspections of various structures such as utilities, streets, bridges, and culverts; checks line, grade, size, elevation, and location of structures for conformance with plans specifications and regulations and renders objective and impartial decisions.
  • Prepares written and financial reports including contractor pay applications, daily logs, quantity reporting, and closeout documentation including as built information.
  • Answers questions and provides information to the public concerning Engineering, Road and Bridge, drainage, or improvement district activities.
  • Negotiates and executes Change Orders for unforeseen conditions and design changes during construction.

We are looking for a candidate that will:
 

  • Be bilingual, as bilingual candidates are highly preferred.
  • Have a strong knowledge of Construction and Engineering principles and methods for public works projects, primarily asphalt paving, earthwork, storm drainage, and customary construction inspection practices.
  • Be familiar with construction materials inspection, sampling and testing.
  • Be proficient at routine software and business applications including, but not limited to, PDF editing, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software. CADD or GIS a plus.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Have experience with the State of Colorado, Department of Transportation Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction or a comparable manual.
  • Understand mathematics related to construction, including Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry.
  • Accurately read and interpret construction plans and engineering drawings.
  • Preferably have survey experience.

 

Qualifications

All candidates will be screened for the following required minimum qualifications. Any candidate who does not meet all of the qualifications listed as required will be eliminated from the process.
 

  • Four (4) years of experience in a directly related field or the performance of similar duties and responsibilities required.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate's Degree, or equivalent education, from an accredited college or university with studies in Engineering, Construction, or a related field preferred.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License by date of hire required.
